Mental Health First Aid
Build Confidence. Reduce Stigma. Support Early Intervention.
At First Aid and Fire, we deliver certified Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training to empower individuals and workplaces to recognise, understand, and respond to mental health challenges. Our MHFA courses follow the evidence-based framework developed by Mental Health First Aid Australia, ensuring participants gain practical skills grounded in current best practice.

Mental health is just as important as physical health. With 1 in 5 Australians experiencing a mental health condition each year, early recognition and supportive action can significantly improve outcomes. MHFA equips everyday people—employees, leaders, teachers, parents, and frontline workers—to provide safe, effective, and confident initial support.
What is Mental Health First Aid
Mental Health First Aid is the initial help given to someone who is developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing condition, or in a mental health crisis.
MHFA teaches participants how to:
-
Recognise common signs and symptoms
-
Approach and support someone experiencing distress
-
Provide practical assistance using the ALGEE Action Plan
-
Encourage the person to seek professional help
-
Respond safely in crisis situations such as panic attacks, suicidal thoughts, or severe distress
MHFA does not teach participants to diagnose or treat mental illness—but instead provides the skills to offer compassionate, evidence-based first aid until professional support is available.
