Choose your training pathway
This nationally recognised unit equips participants with the skills and knowledge to manage and provide emergency care for a person with a suspected spinal injury. You'll learn to recognise the signs of spinal injury, safely stabilise a casualty using manual in-line stabilisation (MILS) and spinal equipment, and prepare them for safe transport while awaiting emergency medical services.

First aiders, workplace safety officers, sports trainers, and anyone in a high-risk environment (such as construction, sports fields, or water-based activities) where spinal injuries are a risk.

Recognise and assess a suspected spinal injury in a conscious or unconscious casualty

Immobilise the cervical spine using manual in-line stabilisation and spinal equipment

Evaluate when a casualty can or cannot safely be moved

Prepare and monitor a casualty during transfer

Perform a structured handover to emergency services

Practical: Demonstrate spinal injury management techniques individually and within a group, across scenarios involving conscious and unconscious casualties

Theory: A knowledge check covering spinal anatomy, mechanism of injury, and recognition of signs and symptoms per Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines

Your certification
On successful completion, you'll receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for PUAEME007, valid for 3 Years.
