Our Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) refresher courses are designed for accredited Mental Health First Aiders who want to renew their certification, refresh their skills, and stay up to date with current best practice.
Delivered by licensed MHFA Australia instructors at First Aid and Fire, these short, focused sessions help you stay confident and effective in supporting adults or young people experiencing mental health problems or crises.
Why Do a Refresher?
Mental health first aid skills, like any other first aid, can fade over time.
Our refresher training will help you:

Revisit the ALGEE Action Plan and how to apply it

Refresh knowledge of common mental health problems and warning signs

Practice supportive conversations through realistic scenarios

Update your skills in responding to crisis situations

Renew your MHFA or YMHFA accreditation for a further 3 years
Refresher courses are recommended for anyone whose accreditation is coming up to expiry or has recently lapsed.

Courses Available:
Standard MHFA Refresher
For adults who have previously completed the Standard MHFA course.
This refresher focuses on:

Supporting adults experiencing depression, anxiety, substance use, psychosis and other conditions

Reviewing and practising the ALGEE Action Plan

Responding to panic attacks, suicidal thoughts, severe distress and other crises
-
Applying MHFA skills in the workplace, community and family settings
Youth MHFA (YMHFA) Refresher
For adults who have previously completed the Youth MHFA course.
This refresher focuses on:

Recognising changes in behaviour and distress in young people aged 12–18
-
Revisiting ALGEE in a youth context
-
Responding to self-harm, suicidal thoughts, panic, and acute distress
-
Supporting a young person while respecting boundaries, safety and communication needs
-
Practical scenarios relevant to schools, youth services, sports, and family life
Who Can Attend Refresher Training?
These refresher courses are suitable for anyone who:

Has completed a full Standard MHFA or Youth MHFA course, and

Holds current or recently expired* MHFA accreditation

Course Format and Duration:
We offer flexible delivery to suit individuals and workplaces:
Short refresher sessions (typically around 4 hours)

Workplace group bookings for teams who want to renew together
All refresher courses are delivered by licensed MHFA Australia instructors and follow the latest MHFA Australia guidelines.
