Choose your training pathway

This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to confirm collection requirements, prepare the individual and equipment, and collect specimens via urine, oral fluid, and/or breath testing, following the special procedures that apply to drugs of abuse testing. It applies to individuals working in collection centres, hospitals, other health care environments, and workplaces where drugs of abuse testing takes place.

Workers responsible for drug and alcohol specimen collection — including those in collection centres, hospitals, healthcare environments, mining, and workplaces running internal or third-party drug and alcohol testing programs.

• Confirm collection requirements and prepare the individual and equipment

• Collect specimens using urine and/or oral fluid methods, and conduct breath alcohol testing where required

• Follow special legal and procedural requirements that apply to drugs of abuse testing

• Maintain specimen integrity through correct handling and documentation (chain of custody)

• Apply infection control procedures and manage non-negative results professionally

• Maintain privacy, informed consent, and confidentiality throughout the process

Face-to-Face, minimum 6.5 hours contact time. Delivered in small groups with direct trainer guidance.
