UETDRMP018 Perform rescue from a live low voltage panel

About this course

This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to safely rescue a person from live low voltage (LV) electrical apparatus — including switchboards and distribution boards — in an electrical industry environment. It does not cover overhead lines or underground cables, which require separate specialised training.

You'll learn the organisational requirements for inspecting and using LV panel rescue equipment, and how these apply to ESI and electrical industry workers meeting WHS/OHS, mobility, and mutual aid obligations. The course is recommended for anyone operating in the role of an electrical safety observer.

What you'll walk away able to do

  • Identify and control hazards around live LV electrical apparatus

  • Understand the responsibilities and role of an electrical safety observer

  • Inspect and maintain LV panel rescue equipment to ensure it's rescue-ready

  • Safely isolate power and remove a casualty from a live LV panel

  • Apply CPR to the casualty in line with ARC guidelines, if required

  • Communicate effectively with emergency services and participate in a post-incident debrief

  • Secure the incident scene and complete required workplace documentation

Training formats

LVR is a fully practical unit and is only available face-to-face. If you also need CPR certification, you can complete the CPR blended component online before attending, reducing your time in the room. (reduces time for CPR + LVR by approx 2 hours)

How your assessed

  • Practical: Demonstrate a full live LV panel rescue scenario, including equipment inspection, correct isolation procedure, safe removal of the casualty, and CPR application to the required standard

  • Theory: A written or verbal knowledge check covering hazard identification, WHS/OHS responsibilities, and safety observer procedures

Before you attend

  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is a prerequisite for this course

  • Minimum age 14 at time of attendance

  • A valid USI required to recieve certification

  • CPR must be performed on the floor with no exemptions, in order for an accredited certificate to be issued

  • Wear comfortable clothing — practical sessions may involve kneeling, bending, and lying on the floor; pants and flat shoes are recommended

Your certification

On successful completion, you'll receive a Statement of Attainment for UETDRMP018, valid for 12 months. In line with the Code of Practice and Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, we recommend refreshing your CPR skills annually alongside your LVR renewal.
