Service Description

Overview Nationally recognised course specifically designed for educators, childcare workers, and support staff. It focuses on first aid response for infants and children, including asthma and anaphylactic emergencies, and meets ACECQA and Education and Care Services National Regulations requirements. Supersedes the older HLTAID004 course. Units covered Bundled into the one certificate: HLTAID009 Provide CPR, HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support, HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, and HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting. What's covered in class Child and infant CPR (with age-appropriate modifications) and AED use Managing asthma and anaphylactic emergencies in children Managing common childhood injuries — bleeding, shock, wound cleaning, fractures, burns Responding to choking and allergic reactions Legal and regulatory requirements specific to education and care settings Incident reporting to the relevant regulatory authority Awareness of stress management/support needs for rescuers and children after an incident Format 100% in-person — no pre-learning modules required Practical scenarios relevant to childcare, preschool, OSHC and school settings Trainer-led, hands-on with adult, child and infant manikins Duration Face-to-face standard course runs a minimum of around 7 hours Assessment Practical: 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult, child and infant manikins, plus a simulated first aid scenarios involving a child or infant casualty Theory: written knowledge assessment Entry requirements No formal prerequisites Minimum age typically 14–16 depending on provider (parental/guardian consent required if under 18) Valid USI (Unique Student Identifier) Physically able to perform CPR on the floor Certification Nationally recognised Statement of Attainment, accepted by ACECQA Australia-wide. Recommended renewal every 3 years, with the CPR component renewed every 12 months.
